Bio
When I was four I was convinced I could fly. Whenever my mother went down to the basement to put clothes into our wringer washer, I climbed onto a chair and attempted lift off. Flying is a family thing. My father flew fixed wings and later, helicopters. When we were young he often took us flying, and we fished off the pontoons of the helicopter after landing on mosquito, and black fly infested lakes in northern Manitoba. I haven’t achieved flight yet, but I dream of it constantly.
By day I am a social worker, and by night a writer. I have recently written two novels, and am beginning a third. Writing is the closest I will ever come to flying.
I live in the country with a orange tabby named, Gus.
Even though I’ve abandoned the idea of finding a soul mate in this life time, life has taught me that one should never say never.
I can be neurotic. I used to experience panic attacks so severe I was forced to sleep in my fifteen year old daughter's bed with her; a daughter experiencing her own brand of anxiety, subsequently making me promise to monitor her breathing throughout the night. She was convinced she would stop breathing when she drifted off to sleep. We lay huddled together beneath a filthy 5 star sleeping bag; filthy because she routinely walked on it without removing her Doc Martens. While she slumbered, I listened to the hum of her aquarium housing two itinerant turtles while staring at a poster of Drew Barrymore taped to the far wall. Eventually we both got over ourselves and stopped panicking.
I think everyone should dance naked in the rain just once.I know I'm going to.
