Bio
It all started in the Army, I was a Combat Engineer and seriously into the fitness side of things and after leaving the army I become a Physical Training Instructor (PTI) in Her Majesty’s Prison Service. I worked in a number of different prisons, many maximum security, teaching and playing sport and this is where my interest in injury and rehabilitation really began. In my last 4 years as a PTI in the Prison Service I studied part –time for my Physiotherapy Degree. I managed to achieve a 1st Class Honours Degree, and joined the NHS gaining a good grounding before working as Senior MSK Physiotherapist. I completed my MSc in Manual Therapy (MACP) looking to fine-tune my clinical skills and it was after my MSc that Pain Science and Brain Pain really started to intrigue me.
I have been lucky enough to work with numerous Elite Squads, such as England Athletics, GB Boxing, Rugby Union, GB Triathlon and GBR Football, travelling internationally to World and European Championships. A highlight has to be securing a place as a Physio for LOCOG London 2012 Olympics, however, in the last few years my passion has turned to Persistent Pain, Cortical Mapping, Neuorbiology and Behavioral Characteristics of Clinicians and Patients alike.
I have been Director of iQ Therapies Health Group since we opened our doors in 2008, and we continue to look for new and life changing evidence to drive forward an understanding of Pain for both the patient and our clinical team. I’m lucky to have a talented and committed team of therapists and staff working as part of iQ, and of course lots of support from my wife and my two young children.
The academic bug hasn’t quite left me yet, and I am now facing the daunting task of completing my PhD proposal..! You will find a most of my posts are mix of Pain Science, Performance and some geeky facts that will hopefully stimulate the mind...!
