Bio
A Quaker since the mid-1980s, I am a writer by both vocation and avocation. In the spirit of independent Quaker ministry, I am an avid student of the Bible and of Quaker history, faith and practice. In addition to several essays published in Friends Journal and Quaker Life, I have written or am writing several books:
How Long Will the Land Mourn? A Survey and Critique of Christian Earth Stewardship (currently being presented to publishers through an agent)
The Land-based Gospel: Planks in the Platform of the Commonwealth of God
Spiritual Ecology: Ecology, Technology and the Origins of Western Religion
Quakers and Capitalism: A History and Commentary
I am especially interested in Quaker economic history and in what I call spiritual ecology, land-based spirituality, and religious culture of place. I believe my most valuable contributions lie in this area, especially in new openings into the role that ecology has played in the emergence and evolution of the Jewish and Christian traditions and, specifically, in Jesus’ land-based spirituality: where did he go to do what and why?
I am a trained and seasoned public speaker and I’ve designed and presented lots of conferences, presentations, workshops and Bible studies for Friends groups, meetings and conference centers. I invite inquiries about possible presentations in any format in these areas.
