Bio
Patricia Hill-Collins is a person and professional I admire. Her keen understanding of minority status and a convergence of status that can complete or destroy an individual in society is inspiring and a great model to follow for those of us who are interested in contributing to the profession of social work or move along in our careers as educators.
I love working on my teaching craft. Knowledge is a fun thing. Those famous ah-ha moments are priceless; however, academia is not my only love. Community has a very special place in my heart.
Speaking for those who otherwise may not have a voice is one avenue I take, but I suppose my critical nature is what has drawn my to issues of policy and politics. Current projects include working on a coalition in Houston to further the "Ban the Box" campaign and revisit the implementation of a 100 dollar copay for inmates of the Texas Department of Corrections.
I create this site to speak and vent and pass on some words of the movements of social justice and equality for those who are afflicted with the multiple statuses that serve to bind individuals and divide communities.
