Bio
I guess you could say i am a "traditional modernist." I believe Muslims need to learn their Religion as it was reliably preserved and transmitted and make it relevant to our circumstances today. This doesn't mean reinventing Islamic Jursiprudence or Doctrine, but thoroughly understanding it and seeing how they can be used to improve the societies in which we live.
On a personal note, i grew up in a small city in New England and attended college in a pictureque college town. While in college, i became interested in Islam (after reading Malcolm X). After college i went to the big city to learn more about the Deen. I stayed there a lot longer than i had planned and ending up teaching elementary and middle school and also working for quite a few years in the da`wah.
After my tour of duty, i went overseas and worked and studied for a while. I'm a hick at heart and now live in the South chillin' with the chickens and the other critters and keeping it country.
I am open to discussing a range of topics, whether it be on Islamic/academic education, social issues, or matters pertaining directly to the Religion.
May Allah guide us and give us the good endings.
