Bio
Since childhood, I've had an abiding passion for textiles and fiber arts. A self-taught artist, my handwoven rugs and tapestries have won numerous awards since the early 1980's. I have completed numerous commissions for residential, commercial and public spaces and exhibited at group and invitational solo exhibitions throughout New England, New York and the eastern US.
My current work brings a contemporary approach to the ancient art of basketry. Coiling hand-dyed Indonesian batiks around a solid rope core, I create functional vessels that are both durable and fun, with colors, shapes and sizes suitable for home or office.
Each piece is one-of-a kind. I use no glues, tapes, adhesives or surface stiffeners of any kind. Every raw fabric edge is folded and pressed under before being coiled to assure a smooth, durable finish inside and out. Every splice is done by hand and each layer held in place with firm rows of machine zig-zag stitching to assure that every basket holds its original shape. My products last for years and require only occasional brushing or light vacuuming to remove loose dirt and dust, and may also be cleaned with a damp cloth.
