Bio
Hey I'm Peter, and I've been playing bass for about 15 years. I started playing when a friend called me up one day (back in the days of *shudder* corded phones) and asked "Hey want to play bass in my band?"
I said, "Great! What's a bass?"
One thing led to another, I graduated in 2007 from Berklee College of Music in Boston, and thebasscase.com came soon after.
As fun as it is to play bass, it's twice as fun to listen. I'll always be a listener first and a player second, and I'm hard-pressed to think of a bass skill more useful than transcribing bass lines.
Transcribing utilizes so many different, valuable skill sets: ear training, sight reading, repertoire... and for those of us who tend to move through life at a thousand miles per hour, it slows us down enough to dig deep and enjoy a line note for note. You'll also be surprised how many OTHER things you pick up. What's the keyboard player doing? Wait, this song only has 3 sections? Has it really taken me 45 minutes to memorize this 1 minute solo?
