Bio
Growing up in India, yoga was a part of the culture that surrounded Anna. She started her regular practice in Hong Kong when she moved there to study law. In order to deepen her knowledge, she completed a teacher-training program from Master Yogi Kamal Srinivas in 2001. After spending 14 years in the “City of Life”, she moved to the US and began a quieter journey of homeschooling their two children. While homeschooling is fulfilling and demanding, Anna missed not practicing yoga in a larger community. So she entered the 200-hour teacher training program in DC. Subsequently, earned a Certificate in Therapeutic Yoga for Seniors issued by Duke Integrative Medicine. This Master program combines the best of modern medicine with the ancient wisdom, experience and tradition of Yogic teachings. Duke medical expert- physicians, exercise physiologists, physical therapists and health psychologists covered health conditions common to seniors. Experienced yoga therapists provided hands-on training in: utilizing teaching-skills specific to older practitioners with varied health concerns such as high blood pressure, heart disease, arthritis, osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s disease, chronic pain and joint replacement; teaching elderly students, including pain management, fall prevention, spirituality and aging; helping relieve symptoms of common ailments and to improve function and enhance balance; adapting practical strategies to suit yoga to older bodies, minds and spirits. Anna has also completed the 8-week MBSR program with IMCW.
Anna feels privileged for the opportunity to be able to share her passion and to inspire, and be inspired by, others through yoga. Anna is fulfilled by encouraging people to exercise, to eat healthily, to be optimistic and to enjoy life. Her goal is for the yogis/yoginis to leave a class not only feeling good in their bodies from the practice, but also feeling good in their hearts and minds too, to be more patient and compassionate towards themselves and others. When she is not teaching yoga, Anna enjoys reading and practicing yoga with her family. She cherishes the teachings of the Dalai Lama and others to stay on the path of personal growth through yogic philosophy
