Bio
Hi,
I am Rashida George. I was born in the beautiful island of Antigua in the Caribbean, from where I moved to London, England as a young child (go Arsenal!!!- to all my football fan readers). I spent most of childhood into young adulthood in London before moving to New York in my early twenties.
I am a mother of two curious, energetic, loving children who force me to stay present when my mind wanders and attention depletes.
I have a few close family members for whom I will be forever grateful for and to.
I am a friend to some of the most real, kind and wonderful people I know. I have the best friends in the world!
I graduated with a Masters degree from the nation’s number one social work school (at least we were, back then), Columbia University. In my experience, the prestige did not come from the Ivy League status, but from the experiences and gems of knowledge shared by those brilliant professors who hustled from their day jobs (like I did) to the Upper West Side of Manhatan (like I did) to role switch, teach and learn. They and the experience put the Ivy into that League.
My educational accomplishments and many professional roles did one thing for me…prepared me for the world of work.
My world AKA ‘My Life’ on the other hand… has no textbooks, no exams, no lectures, no papers, no deadlines, no paycheck ….it just is.
I had goals and plans and dreams and hopes (notice I said, “had” right?)
Approximately a year ago to this day my life made a change, the kids and I made a huge transition and I wasn’t the “in- control” as I always had been.
Life, as I knew it had changed and I (sometimes reluctantly) rolled with it.
This has been a Year of Understanding,
