Bio
Mary E. Wambach is originally from Rochester, NY. She comes from a family of 7 children, several who are deaf or hard of hearing. Her degree is in psychology, and shortly after obtaining her degree, she began work in Deafness and Disability Rights. Her career includes performance, writing/journalism, training and community organizing. In addition to working with people with diverse disabilities and from many various groups and cultures, she has administered a number of nonprofit organizations in NYC, Poughkeepsie, NY, Boston, Phoenix, San Diego and Texas. The common denominator of her work is empowerment for consumers and fostering a stewardship model among agency staff, consumers and Board.
She is a Board Member of the CCRC (Coordinated Community Response Coalition) in Corpus Christi/the Coastal Band region, a Member of the City of Corpus Christi Committee for People with Disabilities and a long term member of the national Disability-Abuse/CAN DO panel.
Mary’s writing work includes extensive proposal and grant writing to local, statewide and national organizations both public and private; as well as over 25 years of experience creating and co-authoring White Papers, position papers, annual reports, newsletters, press releases, web content, surveys and promotional materials such as brochures, fund raising materials and scripts for video, TV and radio.
Her published works include Op Eds in the Legislative Gazette, Albany, NY; The Poughkeepsie Journal; The Boston Globe; the Arizona Republic; The Phoenix New Times; The Providence Journal and the Caller-Times. She has commissioned pieces in Austin Woman, 9-1-1 Magazine, i.d.e.a.l. magazine and the APRI online Prosecutors’ Journal Updates.
