Bio
Tom Hagley Sr. is author of the Public Relations Playbook and co-author of Writing Winning Proposals: Public Relations Cases. The Playbook was selected by BookAuthority as one of the best new public relations books. He is a senior instructor of public relations retired from the faculty of the University of Oregon, where he received the Jonathan Marshall Award in 2007 for innovative teaching. An annual award in his name was established in 2020 by the faculty of Washington State University—Vancouver, for the best student team in Integrated Strategic Communication. Prior to teaching, Tom was director of public and investor relations for Alumax, Inc., the nation’s third largest aluminum producer, for 10 years; a private consultant, four years; vice president and manager, Portland, Oregon, office of the worldwide PR firm, Hill & Knowlton, two years; Northwest public relations manager for ALCOA, 13 years; publications editor for Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co., 18 months; and reporter for The Plain Dealer, Cleveland’s metropolitan newspaper for one summer.
