Bio
The blog title “Trucker Gal Dairies” came about after many months. The first title idea came from my boyfriend who said “you’re my queen bitch of the road.” I liked it, then I found a cap that had “Be-Ach,” on it and that seemed interesting so the blog became “Queen Be-Ach of the Road.” But what does Beach have to do with trucking? Over time I didn’t feel comfortable with the connotation of the word bitch so then I came up with “Travel Gal” and loved it, But after my boyfriend did a search, it was already taken. Other Good friends weighed in, and in the end we came up with “Trucker Gal Diaries.
”I’ve dreamed of becoming a trucker for years, but until now it didn’t make economic sense. I had a great career, one that I loved. I was an artist and made a very good living designing and developing giftware and collectibles that elevated the human spirit for over thirty years. Being laid off, turning 59 (YES!) I found that I was ready for a change-let’s call it my retirement gig. This woman isn’t ready to throw in the towel just yet, I don’t feel old, I feel vibrant, intelligent, hopeful, capable and full of wisdom that I didn’t have as a young person. And gosh darn it, I’m not ready to go away and die! There are still things this woman wants to do and being laid off opened a whole new door of excitement. Now is the time, I can actually become a Trucker!
Tag along with me if you find the journey interesting, inspirational, and or simply amusing. I would love to hear from you, especially if something touches or inspires you along the way.
Being a designer, the first thing I thought of was “what’s my trucking” outfit going to be?” Some of my closest friends laughed at me when I showed them my “trucking” outfit ideas. “No scarves, no frilly girly stuff” they said, “Tee’s, Jeans and if you want a necklace over a tee, fine!” I would say “elevate,” and they would say “Get Real Girl. You need to fit in!” So I bought a bunch of tee’s that were “acceptable”, a jean jacket and a pair of boots. But damn if I’m giving up my scarves! I’ll find an acceptable scarf thing that works for a trucker and I bought an embroidered bandana thingy that should work nicely. The reality is that grease gets everywhere and so one really does have to be realistic about what one wears. I’ve become a tee shirt gal except when I’m home and can wear nicer things lol!
