Bio
My love of Italy and all things Italian finally led me, in 2003, to making a new life in the hills of Umbria. The love affair began with my first visit as a young, newly-graduated student, continued blossoming through the years and reached its peak during 21 years as a Qantas flight attendant. Regular pilgrimages were made, friendships established and a fully-fledged Italophile was born. But of all the stunning regions of Italy, why Umbria? With its lush valleys cradled in the rugged mountains and rolling hills, Umbria has a mystical quality and its people embody the spirit of living in harmony with the landscape.
In the ten years since my arrival, I’ve become entrenched in the life of my adopted town, Spello, embracing the culture and traditions that have survived for centuries and savouring the slow pace of life that characterises these little hill towns. A self-confessed “foodie” , much of my spare time is spent researching and indulging in the culinary delights Umbria offers, burning off the excesses with long walks through the olive groves that surround the town and keeping a close eye out for anything that represents the essence of life in this deeply traditional region. A spot of retail therapy and the occasional foray out of Umbria help keep things balanced. And of course, sharing my passion with visitors just helps to strengthen my ties, so follow me, or better still, come and visit so that you too can discover the Ultimate Umbria.
