Engr. Michael Igara Nmecha, born on February 14, 1981, at Ndubisi Hospital in Aba, Abia State, Nigeria, hails from a family of distinguished heritage. His lineage traces back to Chief and Lolo Igara Nmecha of Ameke Abiriba, Abia State, and Chief and Lolo Michael Ihemeje Asinobi of Obazu Mbeiri, Mbaitoli, Imo State, as the eldest of three siblings, Engr. Nmecha has maintained his family's resilience, integrity, and service values.
Educational Journey
Engr. Nmecha’s early education laid a strong foundation for his future achievements. He attended Children Welfare Nursery School and Constitution Crescent Primary School in Aba before completing his secondary education at Ngwa High School (1992–1998).
Pursuing his passion for engineering and environmental stewardship, he earned a Bachelor of Engineering (B. Eng.) in Agricultural Engineering and a Master of Science (M.Sc) in Pollution Control and Environmental Technology (now Environmental Management) from the prestigious Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO). He is advancing his academic career with a Doctorate in Environmental Engineering, focusing on Agricultural Bioresource Engineering.
Professional Career
Engr. Nmecha has cultivated a distinguished and versatile career, building extensive experience across various organizations. His career portfolio includes notable roles at the Ministry of Agriculture in Abeokuta, Ogun State; the FADAMA I-III programs; the Imo State Agricultural Development Program; the Federal Road Safety Corps; TARI-GLO Ventures; and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). These roles reflect his commitment to public service, organizational excellence, and impactful problem-solving.
Since 2012, Engr. Nmecha has been a vital contributor to the Public Procurement Research Centre, where he applies his expertise in Public procurement, environmental engineering, and resource management to address critical challenges in procurement, sustainability, and technology. His commitment to academic and professional advancement is evident in his current role as a Lecturer in the Department of Environmental Management and his pursuit of a PhD in Environmental Engineering (in view) in addition, he is the Project Management Officer/Logistics and Transport in Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards (CE-sPESS).
