Actions speaks louder than words. If you want to prove something, you do it. I take this opportunity to introduce myself.
I am Shekhar KC from mid-western rural part of Nepal. I did my bachelor in Bachelor in Media Studies Kathmandu University 2011. Now i am studying Master in Development studies( batch 2012 feb). I love writers and just writers.As a profession, i would like to be a researcher in broader social sciences and humanity studies. MY philosophy: be honest with your work and it will lead you to the world of happiness.
My past professional experiences are summarized below
A) NGO led Research project
1) (Media Foundation Nepal)
First I was involved as a intern in the Research team analyzing media news in Nepal’s national dailies for the year 2010 and co-authored ‘The Media in the News 2010 An Assessment Report in the Context of Nepal’s Post-Conflict Transition’. This document was published in support of Worldview Nepal and UNESCO. Here I did data collection, analysis and report writing.
Secondly, i Contributed to the writing and translation projects including for ‘Healing the Wounds: Stories from Nepal’s Transitional Justice Process (2010)’- the handbook for conflict victims supported by the UN agency of Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
Thirdly, in 2012, I was involved in small grant project related ‘Capacity building of media in Nepal’- a nationwide Journalist survey on journalists and public perceptions of media in Nepal conducted by the Media Foundation in cooperation with UNDP, JICA and UNESCO. The thematic issues covered were Professionalism, Media Credibility, Capacity, & Media Literacy in Nepali media. I was basically involved in data processing, data analysis and report writing under the leader researcher Dr Dharma Adhikari.
2) Martin Chautari Fellowship Research
I also got involved in the media research project entitled "Readability of editorials of Nepali Broadsheet dailies" funded by Martin Chautari, a research institution based in Kathmandu from August 2010 to February 2011 under the lead researcher Dr Nirmala Mani Adhikari.
B) University Grant Commission funded Faculty based Research Project
The two UGC faculty based research project I got involved was:
First project entitled "Readability of broadsheet dailies published from Kathmandu" was funded by University Grant Commission Nepal from February 2010 to August 2010 under the lead researcher Dr Nirmala Mani Adhikari.
Secondly, I got involved in a media research project entitled ‘Assertions and Assessments: An Editor-Reader Comparison on Nepali Newspapers’ as Research Assistant in 2012 under the lead Researcher Mr Laxman Pant Datt. (The final report is yet to come)
In the entire aforementioned research project, my working areas included data collection, processing and analysis of data. I was involved in the process of presentation of the report as well.
