Bio
I was born in Manhattan and grew up in Westchester County. I can remember feeling as though my life was a movie and it had this amazing soundtrack. I was the dj playing the songs to fit every scene and emotion. I had a diverse collection of tapes, records, and 45's, which included everything from jazz and folk rock, to Britain's finest, soul, pop, and more. Music was my savior, my comfort and release. Home was no safe place for me and at 15 I left. Life was beyond my years, and comprehension. I began writing songs at 6. Later on in life I got a job catering bands for the Beacon Theater in NYC. My first gig was for The Black Crows, then Annie Lennox, Paul Simon, and so many more. I became friends with some amazing musicians who I recruited for gigs of my own and recording. In the beginning, because I have no formal music training, I was not sure how to communicate what I was hearing in my head until I met a DJimbe player at a little cafe in NY City. All I had to say was gimme a beat and I could sing what I was hearing and my songs began to take shape. I have been my own producer on most of my songs except a few where I co-produced. Being exposed to an enormous variety of music as a child I have a rather eclectic sound - it beacme everything I've ever loved comming back out in its own way. I have sang throughout NY and Los Angeles and have recorded four albums so far. I am a going back in to the studio (in Great Barrington) this week and beginning a new album. I am happy to be back in The Berkshires after living in Topanga Canyon CA.
