Bio
Aliya S. King was born and raised in East Orange, New Jersey.
She has held editorial positions at Billboard and The Source. As a freelance writer, her profiles, news stories and features have appeared in Nylon, Vibe, CMJ:New Music Monthly, Upscale, King, The Source, Ms, Us Weekly, Teen People, America, Essence, Black Enterprise and others.
Aliya's story, "Love And Unhappiness," (published in Vibe), about the mysterious 1974 death that took place in the home of soul singer Al Green won the ASCAP Deems Taylor Award for magazine writing in 2005.
As an author, Aliya has enjoyed further success. In 2007, Aliya co-authored the New York Times bestseller, Keep The Faith, with Platinum recording artist Faith Evans. She also co-authored Original Gangster with Frank Lucas, on whom the film American Gangster was based. She wrote and published her first novel, PLATINUM, released by Simon and Schuster in July, 2010. And her latest novel, DIAMOND LIFE, was released by Simon and Schuster in February of 2012.
Aliya S. King lives in New Jersey with her husband and two daughters.
