Bio
Andrew Mersmann has spent decades in various iterations of his writing career, from freelancer to editor-in-chief of a national travel magazine to children’s author and restaurant reviewer. In addition to hundreds of magazine and newspaper articles published, he is the author of Frommer’s 500 Places Where You Can Make a Difference, a global guide to volunteer vacations (Gold Medal Winner from Society of American Travel Writers: Best Guidebook). As a creative writing mentor, he has created projects to work with at-risk tribal youth on Native American reservations and incarcerated inner-city teens in New York City. He has been a featured speaker, interview guest, or moderator from the New York Times Travel Show, Smithsonian Associates, and the 92nd Street Y-TriBeCa to Oprah and Friends, Animal House, and The Focus Group on satellite radio as well as on NY1 television as a guest on Travels With Val.
Andrew has seen some lives ruined by isolation and powerlessness but many more saved by art, expression, and kindness. He knows firsthand that a writer finding, testing, and using their voice changes the world.
