change file name of an image

  Dear all, I need to update an image, if I upload the same file with same file name, on gallery of wordpress -1 -2 etc. are added at the end, even if original file has been deleted, so URL is different respect the original file. I’d like to remove numbers to obtain original URL, is it possible?
