    The Louisville Zoo was ranked 12th in a recent “Best U.S. Zoo” contest sponsored by USA Today.

    The Louisville Zoo was one of 20 zoos whittled down from an initial list of 200-plus zoos. Readers have been able to cast votes over the past few weeks and resultsResults were revealed Wednesday.

    “We were nominated by USA Today, because of the excellence we have achieved in exhibit design and educational programming and for this we are truly honored. That we narrowly missed the Top 10 out of over 200 accredited zoos says we are doing something right,” said Louisville Zoo Director John Walczak.

    The criteria used to make the final selections for the 20 nominees included attendance, admission fees, contributions to conservation efforts and recent awards won.
