Resizing images doesn’t reduce disk usage! Please help!

  I’ve just realized that my site disk usage has grown up very quicly to 20%. So I tried to reduce image size by the 50%, but surprisingly the disk usage has grown up to 22%!!! How could it be possible? Thanks for helping
