Introduction to WooCommerce

To create an online store, install the free WooCommerce plugin on your WordPress.com site. This guide will introduce WooCommerce and help you start creating products and setting up a store.

This feature is available on sites with the WordPress.com Personal, Premium, Business, and Commerce plans. For free sites, upgrade your plan to access this feature.

WooCommerce is an e-commerce solution for WordPress that allows you to add a cart and checkout process, list your products, take payments, monitor inventory, and do everything else you need to sell online. You can set up an online store to sell physical products, digital products, subscriptions, memberships, services, and more.

You can install the free WooCommerce plugin on the WordPress.com Business plan. Alternatively, choose our Commerce plan to expand upon the WooCommerce plugin with a suite of handpicked WooCommerce extensions and tools to help you sell products, accept payments, ship products, and grow your store.

To install WooCommerce on your website, you have two options. When you purchase the Commerce plan, the WooCommerce plugin and a large collection of ecommerce extras are installed automatically on your site.

On the Business plan, you can install WooCommerce at no extra cost with the following steps:

1. Visit your site’s dashboard.
2. Go to Plugins → Add Plugin and search for “WooCommerce”.
3. Locate the WooCommerce by Automattic plugin and click the Install button.
4. After activation, the Setup Wizard will launch automatically to guide you through the initial steps to set up your store.

With WooCommerce installed, we recommend adding your first products with the following steps:

1. Visit your site’s dashboard.
2. Click on the new Products menu option added by WooCommerce.
3. Click the “Add product” button and fill in the details for your first product.

Visit WooCommerce → Settings to adjust your store’s settings, including:

• General: Your store address, selling region, currency, and more.
• Products: Units of measurement, product reviews, inventory, and more.
• Tax: Define rates or enable automated taxes.
• Shipping: Zones, methods, and rates for shipping your products.
• Payments: Set up payment methods. WooPayments is recommended where available.
