importing backup

  I have a WordPress blog on a platform that will stop soon. I can create a backup from that blog. In the XML I can see the following info: http://wordpress.org/?v=2.8.4.

  If I try to import this blog into WordPress.com I get an error: ‘no authors can be found’. How can I import the backup from my original blog?
