Use the AI website builder on WordPress.com to create a fully designed website in minutes—without coding, templates, or technical knowledge. This guide will show you how to create your website with AI.

You can use the AI website builder for free to create a new site. Upgrade to a Premium or Business plan to launch the site publicly.

The AI website builder will guide you through the following process:

1. Describe your website: We’ll ask you a few questions to understand what kind of website you want to create.
2. Watch AI build the site: Submit your answers, and watch your website get built with a custom layout, suggested images & content, and pre-filled sections based on your industry or goals.
3. Customize your site: With the foundation of the site built, you can then click on any section and prompt the AI to modify colors, text, sections, and layouts.

Our artificial intelligence (AI) will build your site based on a set of instructions you provide, also known as a prompt. Your instructions should include details like what your site is about, your site’s name, the colors and styles you prefer, and the content you want on your site. Once the AI creates your site, you will have opportunities to prompt the AI to add images, content, and more to your site.

Follow these steps to create a new website with AI:

1. Visit the following page: https://wordpress.com/ai-website-builder/
2. In your first prompt (set of instructions for the AI), describe your website in a few words. You can get more specific with your prompts once your site has been created.

3. Click the arrow in the AI chat window, or hit enter or return on your keyboard to submit your first prompt.
4. Log in or sign up to WordPress.com when prompted. Once you log in, we’ll take you back to your chat with the AI.
5. The AI may ask you for additional details before it begins building your site. Once the AI has enough information to begin building your site, click the “Create my site” button.
6. Watch as AI builds your website in just a few seconds.

After the initial site is created, you can customize the design, layout, text, and images by continuing to chat with the AI in the sidebar:

You can click the ⋮ icon in the sidebar to turn your chat into a movable assistant on that page. You can collapse the AI sidebar at any time by clicking the X in the top-right corner, and bring it back by clicking the four-pointed star icon in the lower corner.

You can also make changes manually in the Site Editor.

Writing clear instructions and directions, also known as prompts, helps the AI understand what you want and produce better results. Keep these tips in mind:

• Be specific: The more detail you give after your site is built, the more accurate the result. For example, “make the button blue” is clearer than “change the button.”
• Mention the section or element: Tell the AI exactly which part of your site you want to edit (for example: “Change the headline in the Services section”).
• Use plain language: You don’t need technical terms—simple instructions like “make this text shorter” or “use brighter colors” work well.
• Give examples of style or tone: If you want a certain feel, describe it. For example: “rewrite this paragraph in a friendly and welcoming tone.”
• Try step-by-step requests: Break large edits into smaller ones. For example, update one section at a time instead of asking the AI to redesign the whole page at once.
• Try again: If the result isn’t what you expected, reword your prompt or add more context.
• Ask the AI for ideas: If you’re not sure what to do, ask questions like “What kind of images would fit this homepage?”
• Ask the AI for sample prompts: If you’re not sure what to ask the AI website builder, it can help with that too! Type something like “What kind of image-related tasks can you help with? Provide me with some sample prompts I could use.“
• Ask for non-editing related help: The AI website builder doesn’t just edit your website. You can ask it questions like “How do I optimize my images for faster loading?” or “What security settings should I use on my site?” and it will provide you with up-to-date instructions.
• Undo a change: Use the backwards arrow icon in the top navigation to undo a change.

Upon creation, your new website will be in Coming Soon mode. This means it is accessible only to you, while members of the public will see a “Coming Soon” message.

When you’re ready to make the website public, you can click the “Launch” button in the upper-right corner of the editor:

The new website will be just like any other WordPress website, so you can add a domain, publish a blog post, connect to Google Analytics, and anything else you may need from your website. 

The AI website builder can create blogs, portfolios, and service-based websites, and we’re working on expanding the AI website builder capabilities in the future. Ecommerce functionality and integrations cannot currently be built with AI, but you can add plugins, including WooCommerce, after creating the site.
