Copy a page or post

Last reviewed on March 17, 2026

You can make a copy of a post or page that includes the same title, contents, and settings. This guide explains options for duplicating a page or post on your site.

Requirements

To use the features described in this guide, you will need one of the following:

Duplicate a page or post

To copy a post or page, take the following steps.

  1. Click on Posts or Pages in your dashboard.
  2. Hover your mouse over the title of the page you want to make a copy of.
  3. Click the “Duplicate” link that appears below the page name (if this option doesn’t appear, you need to enable it first.)
An arrow pointing to the Duplicate option that appears below a page or post name.

Clicking Duplicate will open a new edit window, with the following elements already copied over (if the original post has them):

  • title
  • content
  • excerpt
  • featured image
  • categories
  • tags
  • comment and pingback status
  • Likes and Sharing status
  • custom post type terms

Duplicate while in the editor

If you’re working on a page or post in the WordPress Editor and decide that you want to make a copy of it, you can duplicate it using an option in the settings sidebar.

If you do not have the sidebar on the right, click the Settings icon in the top-right corner to bring up the settings. This icon looks like a square with two uneven columns:

An arrow pointing to the "Settings" icon in the top right of the WordPress Editor.
  1. Next to the page or post title, click the ellipses (three dots) icon.
  2. Click the Duplicate option from the drop-down menu.
  3. In the window that appears, type a title for your new page or post.
  4. Click the Duplicate button to create the copy.

The copy of the page or post will be saved as a draft in your page/post list. You can edit the content and click the Publish button when you’re ready for the copy to go live.

An arrow pointing from the three dot menu in the Page Settings to the "Duplicate" option.

Enable the duplicate option

If you have a plugin-enabled site, first make sure the Jetpack plugin is active and go to Jetpack → Settings → Writing and activate the “Enable the option to copy entire posts and pages, including tags and settings” option:

With this option enabled, you can now copy a post by following the same instructions above.

This feature may not be available if your site uses a page builder plugin, but that plugin may provide its own option to copy pages and posts.

Copy all blocks

If the options described above are not available to you, you can copy the entire contents of a post or page to your clipboard, and paste them into a new post or page following these steps:

  1. Visit your site’s dashboard.
  2. Go to Posts or Pages.
  3. Click on a post or page to open it in the editor.
  4. Click the ellipses (three dots) menu in the top-right corner of the editor.
  5. Click the “Copy all blocks” option. This copies all the blocks to your device’s clipboard.
  6. Create a new post or page.
  7. Paste the blocks you copied from step 5 by right-clicking and choosing Paste or using ctrl + v (PC) or cmd + v (Mac).
An arrow points to the three dots option in the upper right corner, and then the Copy all blocks option is labeled.

Copy a page or post using the AI assistant

The AI assistant four-pointed star icon.

This section applies to sites created with the AI Website Builder (all paid plans) or sites that have enabled the AI assistant (Business and Commerce plans). Open the AI assistant by clicking the AI icon (a four-pointed star) at the bottom of the screen.

The AI assistant can help you create new pages and posts based on existing content without starting from scratch. Here are some things you can ask it to do:

  • “Write a new About page using the same structure as my existing one, but for my new business.”
  • “Create a variation of my Services page that focuses on enterprise clients.”
  • “Rewrite my Contact page for a different region.”
  • “Write a second version of my homepage with a different headline and call to action.”

Copy pages and posts with AI agents

You can use AI agents like Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, OpenClaw, and more to read and edit your website securely. Enable MCP tool access for AI agents.

AI agents can duplicate and manage your pages and posts directly on your site. Here are some things you can ask an agent to do:

  • “Duplicate my About page and save it as a draft.”
  • “Make a copy of my most recent post.”
  • “Duplicate my Contact page and rename it ‘Contact — West Coast.'”
  • “Copy my homepage and save it as a new draft called ‘Homepage — Test.'”
