Last reviewed on January 29, 2026

While there is a large collection of fonts available on WordPress.com, Google Fonts offers a vast library of over 1800 font families. This guide shows you how to install a font from Google Fonts for use on your WordPress.com site.

This feature is available on sites with the WordPress.com Personal, PremiumBusiness, and Commerce plans. For free sites, upgrade your plan to access this feature.

To install fonts from Google, you must give permission to connect directly to Google servers. The fonts you install are downloaded from Google and stored on your site. Your site then uses these locally hosted fonts.

You can revoke access at any time through the “Install Fonts” section. Click the three dots () to the right of the header and select “Revoke access to Google Fonts”.

💡

If you don’t see Fonts under Appearance, ensure the Gutenberg plugin is active on your site.

Or in the Site Editor, visit Styles → Typography and click the “Manage Fonts” button (two horizontal lines with dots) to install fonts instead.

Use an installed font

After installing a font from Google Fonts, it appears anywhere you can edit text styling on your site.

You can apply the font across your entire site or to specific text.

Google Fonts and GDPR

All requests to serve Google Fonts used in WordPress.com themes are served through WordPress.com’s servers and no longer use Google’s CDN/FDN. This change was made in December 2022.

If your site uses a custom plugin or third-party theme, verify with the plugin or theme developers to ensure they are not serving Google Fonts through Google’s CDN/FDN. Learn more about GDPR.
