Manage installed fonts

Last reviewed on January 29, 2026

After installing fonts from Google Fonts or uploading your own font files, you may wish to deactivate, delete, or reactivate fonts in your library. This guide shows you how.

This feature is available on sites with the WordPress.com Personal, PremiumBusiness, and Commerce plans. For free sites, upgrade your plan to access this feature.

Deactivate or delete an installed font

If you no longer use a font on your website, you can deactivate it or completely delete it from your site. Deactivating or deleting a font means that any text using the font will no longer display that font family.

To deactivate or delete a font:

  1. From your site’s dashboard, go to Appearance → Fonts.
  2. Click the arrow (>) next to the variant count for the font you want to manage.
An arrow pointing to the > to open the font variant list.
  1. To deactivate a font, uncheck the box next to the variant and click the Update button.
  2. Or, to delete a font, click the Delete link.
The font management screen with the option to uncheck fonts to deactivate them, or the delete option to delete a font family.

💡

If you don’t see Fonts under Appearance, ensure the Gutenberg plugin is active on your site.

Or in the Site Editor, visit Styles → Typography and click the “Manage Fonts” button (two horizontal lines with dots) to manage your fonts instead.

Reactivate a deactivated font

If you have deactivated (but not deleted) a font, you can reactivate it:

  1. From your site’s dashboard, go to Appearance → Fonts.
  2. Click the arrow (>) next to the variant count for the font you want to reactivate.
An arrow pointing to the > to open the font variant list.
  1. Check the box next to the variant and click the Update button.
