Last reviewed on July 18, 2025

When you purchase a new annual plan for your WordPress.com site, your subscription includes a free domain for one year. The credit doesn’t expire, so you can use it immediately or save it until you’ve found exactly the right name for your site!

Receive a free domain credit

Purchase any annual WordPress.com plan to receive a free domain credit, which you can use for one of the following options:

This credit is only available to new plans on an annual payment schedule. Monthly plans do not come with a free domain credit.

Use the free domain credit

To use your domain credit, take the following steps:

  1. Visit your site’s dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Upgrades → Domains (or Hosting → Domains if using WP Admin).
  3. Claim your free domain in one of two ways:
The “claim your free domain” banner on the Domains page.

If you purchased a .com.blog.net, or .org domain before you purchased or upgraded to a plan that includes a free domain credit, you will receive an upgrade credit for the full cost of the domain, applied during checkout.

If you purchased a different domain extension before buying a plan that includes the free domain credit, you can contact our Happiness Engineers. Domains purchased within 96 hours before getting the qualifying plan are eligible for a refund or plan credit.
