You can transform images—crop, rotate, flip, zoom, or adjust the aspect ratio—directly in the editor. You can also edit images with AI. In this guide, you will learn how to use the editor to edit your images.
You can transform an image by cropping, rotating, flipping, or zooming, and you can set the aspect ratio. When you crop an image in the editor, the editing tools open in a full-screen image editor window:

Follow these steps to transform an image you have added to your site:
- Start at your site’s dashboard.
- Edit the page, post, or template where you added the image.
- Click on the image you want to crop, rotate, or flip.
- Click the Crop icon in the toolbar that appears when you click the image. The image editor opens in a full-screen window.

- Drag the handles on the corners and edges of the image to set the area you want to keep.
- Use the controls in the sidebar to refine your edit:
- Aspect ratio: Choose a preset aspect ratio—such as Square, 16:9, or 4:3—or keep the free setting to crop to any shape.
- Zoom: Drag the zoom slider to zoom in on the image. You can also zoom with your mouse wheel or a touch gesture.
- At the bottom of the image editing screen, you can find the following tools:
- Undo and Redo: Revert the most recent changes.
- Reset: Revert all changes back to the original version of the image.
- Rotation ruler: Drag the rotation slider to skew the image using small, precise adjustments.
- Rotate 90°: Rotate the image clockwise or counterclockwise by 90 degrees at a time.
- Flip: Use the flip controls to flip the image horizontally or vertically.
- Click the Details tab in the sidebar to view details about the image and update the image’s alt text, caption, and title.
- Click Save to apply your changes. To discard your changes, click the X in the upper-right corner.
After you save, the edited image appears in the block.
Editing an image creates a new copy of the image in your Media Library. This keeps the original image unchanged, so it is unaffected if used elsewhere on your site and remains available if you need it.

If you don’t see the “Edit with AI” option in the toolbar, make sure you have enabled the AI assistant.
Every time an image is transformed or edited with AI, a copy of the original image is made. To revert the changes, replace the edited image with the original image by following these steps:
- Start at your site’s dashboard.
- Edit the page, post, or template where you added the image.
- Click on the image you want to replace.
- In the toolbar that appears above the image, click the Replace option.

- Select “Open Media Library” from the list of choices.
- Choose the original image from your media library.
You can also edit images in your Media Library. Unlike when you edit an image in the editor, changes are saved to the original file. However, the original file can be restored at any time. Learn how to edit images in the Media Library.
