The footer is the area at the bottom of every page of your site, often displaying contact information, social media profiles, and copyright details. In this guide, you will learn how to edit the footer of your site.
How you edit your footer depends on your theme type. To find the right instructions, check the Appearance menu in your site’s dashboard:
- If you see Editor, use the Editor tab below.
- If you see Widgets, use the Widgets tab below.
- If you see neither, you may be using a third-party theme. Check your theme’s documentation to learn how to edit your footer.

Common types of content to add to your footer include:

- Social Icons block: Display links to your social media profiles.
- Paragraph block: Type any regular text, including symbols like © for copyright information.

If you don’t see a Footer template part in the editor, you can add one by clicking the + Block Inserter and searching for “footer”.

The footer credit is the line at the bottom of the footer identifying your site as a WordPress.com site. All WordPress.com users can choose from several options, from a minimalist WordPress.com logo to text options such as “A WordPress.com Website” or “Website Powered by WordPress.com.”
You can modify or remove the footer credit if your site uses a block theme. For classic themes, you can hide the footer credit with the Business or Commerce plan. Otherwise, you may choose from one of the alternate wordings or the WordPress icon. Visit our Footer Credit guide to learn how.
