Ready to move your site from TypePad to WordPress.com? This guide will show you how to export the contents of a TypePad website and move your site to WordPress.
⚠️
Typepad is shutting down on September 30, 2025, and of your Typepad content will be removed on that date.
To preserve your content and media, you must download your export file and import it into your WordPress.com site before September 30, 2025. Make sure to store that download in a safe place.
TypePad uses a file format known as the Movable Type Import Format (MTIF). This format is a plain text (TXT) file encoded in UTF-8 that contains all blog posts, pages, comments, and metadata.
To export the file, follow these steps:
- Log into your Typepad account.
- Select a blog from the Blogs drop-down at the top.
- Click the Settings tab.
- Click the Import/Export option.
- Click the Export button.
- Once the export is complete, right-click on the Download link and select the “Save link as…” option to save your export as a text (TXT) file on your computer.
Take a look at TypePad’s instructions for additional information.
Now that you have downloaded your Typepad content, you can import it into your WordPress.com site.
