Link an image

Images can link to other pages on your site, or other websites. In this guide, you will learn how to add a link to an image and remove the link.

You can link an image to a file, another website, or another page on your site. Follow these steps to add a link to an image:

  1. Start at your WordPress.com dashboard.
  2. Edit the page, post, or template where you added the image
  3. Click on the image you want to add a link to. 
  4. In the toolbar that appears above the image, click the “Link” icon.

  1. Choose from one of the following options:
    • Paste a URL or type keywords to search for pages/posts on your site. Press Enter or click the “Apply” icon to save the URL.
    • Link to image file: click this option to link the image to the original image file. 
    • Link to attachment page: if you have enabled the Image Gallery Carousel in Media Settings, clicking the image will display the image with a black background. Otherwise, the link will go to the attachment page for the image. 
    • Expand on click: Scale the image with a lightbox effect.

You can remove a link from an image by following these steps:

  1. Start at your WordPress.com dashboard.
  2. Edit the page, post, or template where you added the image
  3. Click on the image you want to remove the link from. 
  4. In the toolbar that appears when you click the image, click the “Link” icon.
