Edit an image

Last reviewed on March 4, 2026

You can transform images—crop, rotate, flip, zoom, or adjust the aspect ratio—directly in the editor. You can also edit images with AI. In this guide, you will learn how to use the editor to edit your images.

Transform an image

You can transform an image by cropping, rotating, or flipping the image. You can also zoom into a specific area of the image or set the aspect ratio.

Follow these steps to transform an image you have added to your site:

  1. Start at your site’s dashboard.
  2. Edit the page, post, or template where you added the image
  3. Click on the image you want to crop, rotate, or flip.
  4. Click the Crop icon in the toolbar that appears when you click the image.
The Image block's toolbar, with the "crop" icon highlighted.
  1. Edit your image using the following icons, from left to right.
    • Zoom: Click the magnifying glass icon to zoom in on your image up to 300%. Click and drag the image to control which part of the image is zoomed in.
    • Aspect Ratio: Click the rectangle with arrows in the corners to select from a drop-down of specific aspect ratios. After you choose an aspect ratio, click and drag the image to control which part of the image displays in the final crop.
      • Original
      • Square
      • Landscape: 16:10, 16:9, 4:3, 3:2
      • Portrait: 10:16, 9:16, 3:4, 2:3
    • Rotate: Click the circular arrow icon to rotate the image by 90°. Click rotate more than once to rotate by 180°, 270°, or 360°

  1. Once you’re done editing, click the Apply button to save your changes.

Edits you make to your image will create a new copy of the image in the Media Library. This ensures that if the image is used elsewhere on your site, the original image won’t be affected. It also means you still have the original image if you still need it.

💡

If you don’t see the “Edit with AI” option in the toolbar, make sure you have enabled the AI assistant.

Restore original image in the editor

Every time an image is transformed or edited with AI, a copy of the original image is made. To revert the changes, replace the edited image with the original image by following these steps:

  1. Start at your site’s dashboard.
  2. Edit the page, post, or template where you added the image
  3. Click on the image you want to replace.
  4. In the toolbar that appears above the image, click the Replace option.
The "Replace" option highlighted in the Image block toolbar.
  1. Select “Open Media Library” from the list of choices.
  2. Choose the original image from your media library.

Edit an image in the Media Library

You can also edit images in your Media Library. Unlike when you edit an image in the editor, changes are saved to the original file. However, the original file can be restored at any time. Learn how to edit images in the Media Library.
