Update plugins in bulk

Last reviewed on January 6, 2026

You can efficiently manage and update plugins across all your WordPress.com sites. This guide will show you how to view, activate, deactivate, update, and remove plugins in bulk.

This feature is available on sites with the WordPress.com Personal, PremiumBusiness, and Commerce plans. For free sites, upgrade your plan to access this feature.

View all plugins

You can view plugins you have installed across all the sites you administer through WordPress.com.

These instructions vary depending on your dashboard. If you’ve opted into the new Hosting Dashboard, select that tab below; otherwise, use the Sites list tab.

To view the plugins installed across all the sites you are an administrator on, follow these steps:

  1. Visit your Sites list at https://wordpress.com/sites.
  2. Select Plugins in the left-hand sidebar and click “Manage Plugins“.
  3. Next to a plugin, click on the vertical ellipsis (⋮) icon under Actions to view the available options:
    • Manage Plugin: Takes you to the plugin page where you can more granularly manage the plugin installs across all of your sites.
    • Activate: Activates the selected plugin on all sites on which it is installed.
    • Deactivate: Deactivates the selected plugin on all sites on which it is installed.
    • Enable auto-updates: Your selected plugin will update on all sites as soon as an update becomes available.
    • Disable auto-updates: Disables auto-updates across all of your sites. The selected plugin will require manual or scheduled updates.
    • Remove: Deactivates and removes the selected plugin from all sites.

Filtering and sorting

By default, the plugins page shows all of your plugins. You can filter your plugins by using the Search field or by clicking the icon next to the search input that looks like three bars.

The filter next to search activated and the Status filter options displayed.

Doing so will allow you to choose one of the following Status options:

  • Active: All the plugins that have at least one active install on one of your sites.
  • Inactive: All the plugins that are inactive across all of your sites.
  • Update available: Any plugin that requires an update.

You may also change the appearance, sorting, and properties shown on this page by clicking the gear icon in the right corner:

Manage a plugin

You can manage plugin updates and activate or deactivate specific plugins on your sites.

These instructions vary depending on your dashboard. If you’ve opted into the new Hosting Dashboard, select that tab below; otherwise, use the Sites list tab.

Follow these steps to manage a plugin:

  1. Next to a plugin, click on the vertical ellipsis (⋮) icon and select the “Manage plugin” option.
  2. Review the plugin details, including installation, changelog, and FAQs.

  1. In the “Available on” section below the sites the plugin is installed on are other sites on your account that don’t have the plugin installed. Click the Install button to install the plugin on those sites.

If you see a “Go to plugin page” button on your site instead, that means that the site is not on a plugin-enabled plan and must be upgraded to install the plugin.
