Manage business tax rates in Ohio and Connecticut

Last reviewed on October 21, 2025

If you’re located in Ohio or Connecticut, you can designate your purchase as a business purchase to apply your state’s business-use tax rate instead of the standard consumer tax rate. In this guide, you will learn how to designate a purchase as a business purchase.

Set up a business payment method

If you are located in Ohio or Connecticut, you can add a business-designated payment method during checkout or through your account settings. Once a card is marked for business use, future purchases and renewals will automatically apply your state’s business sales tax rate when using that card.

During checkout

To designate a purchase as a business purchase during checkout, follow these steps:

  1. Enter your billing information and set your country to the United States.
  2. Add your postal code.
  3. If your postal code is in Ohio or Connecticut, a checkbox with the text “Is this purchase for business?” will appear.
The "Is this purchase for business?" field highlighted on the checkout page.
  1. Check the “Is this purchase for business?” checkbox to designate the payment as a business payment.
  2. Click “Continue to Payment” to apply the updated tax rate.

Checking this box will apply sales taxes based on business-use rules, filter payment methods to show only business-designated cards, and prompt you to add a business card if none exist on your account.

From your account settings

To add a business payment method from your account settings, follow these steps:

  1. Click your profile at the top-right of your dashboard.
  2. Select Purchases from the left menu.
  3. Click the “Add Payment Method” button.
  4. Enter your card details.
  5. Set your billing country to the United States and enter your postal code.
  6. If your postal code is in Ohio or Connecticut, a checkbox with the text “Is this purchase for business?” will appear.
The "Is this purchase for business?" checkbox highlighted in the "Add payment method" page.
  1. Check the “Is this purchase for business?” checkbox to designate the payment as a business payment.
  2. Click the “Save Card” button to save your new card.

The business-designated payment method will be available for future purchases.

For an existing subscription

You can change the payment method associated with the subscription. When you add an Ohio or Connecticut postal code, you will see the “Is this purchase for business” checkbox.

Update an existing payment method’s business designation

To change an existing payment method’s business designation:

  1. Delete the current payment method from your account.
  2. Re-add it as a business payment method using one of these methods:
    • During checkout when making a purchase
    • Add a Payment Method under Purchases → Payment Methods
    • Change the Payment Method under Purchases → Active Upgrades → Purchase Settings
