You can organize content into side-by-side columns for a visually appealing and user-friendly page layout. This guide will show you how to create columns on your website.
To add columns to a page, post, or template, take the following steps:
- Click the + (block inserter) button.
- Search for “columns” and click it to add a new Columns block to your content.
- Select one of the layouts, such as three columns of equal size (33/33/33) or two uneven columns (66/33). Later, you can adjust the number of columns and the width of each column.
- Click the + icon in your first column to start adding content like text and images.
After inserting a Columns block, you can add content to the column by clicking the + (block inserter) icon that appears when you click on that column:

You can add any type of content to columns. The most common blocks you may wish to add include:
- Heading block
- Image block
- Paragraph block (for regular text)
- Cover block (to set a background image for the entire column)
- Buttons block
If you have inserted multiple blocks one after another and you want to turn them into columns, you can follow the steps below:
- Click and drag your mouse to select all the blocks you want to turn into columns.
- A toolbar will appear above or below the blocks. Click the first option on the left side of the block toolbar.
- Under the list “Transform to,” select the “Columns” option:
You can transform between one and six blocks into columns. Each block you select will turn into its own column. The number of columns will be the same as the number of blocks you selected before transforming. After creating the columns, you can move blocks from column to another using List View.
Using block patterns, you can quickly add professionally-designed column layouts to your WordPress site! Follow these steps to search for and insert a predesigned column layout into a page, post, or template:
- Click the + (block inserter) button in the upper-left corner or anywhere it appears within the editor.
- Select the “Patterns” tab.
- Scroll through or search for column layouts by typing “columns” in the search bar.
- Choose a column layout you like and click it once to insert it into the page.
- Customize the content within the columns by changing the text and images and adding any other blocks.
- Adjust the settings as needed, like column width or background color.
- Preview your changes, then click the “Publish” or “Save” button.
