Visitors to your website can contact you through forms on your website. This guide will show you how to view the messages you receive through contact forms.
In addition to viewing messages in your email inbox, you can view messages received from your contact form in your site’s dashboard by following these steps:
- Visit your site’s dashboard.
- Navigate to Jetpack → Forms.
- View the following tabs:
- Inbox: Active submissions.
- Spam: Entries flagged as spam.
- Trash: Deleted submissions that can be restored or permanently removed.
You can also use the options at the top of the screen to search for specific messages and filter by date, source, and status.

If you have added a file upload field to your contact form, the files your visitors upload will be attached to their message in your dashboard.
To access the file upload, follow these steps:
- Visit your site’s dashboard.
- Navigate to Jetpack → Forms.
- Hover over the response and select the “View” option.
- In the response, click the download option next to the file upload field.

Marking a message as spam flags the message, training the spam filter to recognize these types of messages as spam in the future. If a message is spammy, follow these steps to mark the message as spam:
- Visit your site’s dashboard.
- Navigate to Jetpack → Forms.
- Click the three vertical dots (⋮) to the right of a message, and click “Spam.”

If you want to delete a message, select “Move to trash” from the (⋮) menu.
All WordPress.com sites include our Akismet anti-spam service that starts working immediately to filter spam messages in contact forms.
Another common method for fighting spam is by using CAPTCHA, although this method has some downsides. If your site supports plugins, you can install a CAPTCHA plugin. Make sure the plugin you choose is compatible with Jetpack forms, which should be stated in the plugin’s description.
Additionally, to protect your form submissions from spam and unwanted content, you can add keywords, usernames, IP addresses, email addresses, and more to the Disallowed Comment Keys setting available from Settings → Discussion. Messages matching the words added to your “Disallowed Comment Keys” will be sent directly to Trash section of Jetpack → Forms.
You will be notified via email whenever someone sends a message through your form. You can reply to these emails directly in your email program.
By default, messages will be sent to the same email address as your WordPress.com account. You can change the email address that form messages are sent to (or even add multiple email addresses) by taking the following steps:
- Open List View by clicking the icon that looks like three horizontal lines in the upper-left corner of the editor screen.
- Locate the Form block here and click on it:

- In the Form block settings sidebar on the right side of the screen, open the “Form notifications” section.
- Ensure the “Send responses to email” toggle is in the ON position, and enter your email address into the “Email address to send to” box. You can add multiple email addresses separated by commas.
- Click the “Save” button to save your changes.

You can use the “Email Subject Line” setting to view or set the subject line of the emails you receive each time someone sends you a message through your form.
You can customize the subject line to include unique information from the form data.
For example, you might have a form that has the following fields:
- Name
- Message
If you want the name and email address to appear in the subject line, you would enter {name}; {email} in the “Email Subject Line” field.
You can include any fields by typing the field name in between curly braces: { }. The field names should be spelled exactly the way they are spelled on the contact form. The field names are not case-sensitive.
Note, these are the names of the fields as they appear on your form, not the field type/block names (for example, do not use “Name field” as your placeholder.)

If you created a new form and are testing it to ensure it is working, make sure you use real information. Often, fake information looks like spam, so it can get filtered by our spam protection.
To check if a form submission has been flagged as spam:
- Visit your site’s dashboard.
- Navigate to Jetpack → Forms.
- Click the Spam option at the top.

- Look for the missing message in Spam.
If the submission is in Spam and should not be marked as spam, you can hover over the message and click the “Not Spam” option. This trains the spam filter to not flag similar messages as spam in the future.
