Create a gallery

Using the Gallery block, you can display multiple images in an attractive grid layout on your site. This guide shows you how to add a Gallery block and populate it with your images.

To add a gallery to your site, follow these steps:

1. Go to your site’s dashboard.
2. Depending on where you want to add the gallery, navigate to a page, post, or template and edit or create a new:
   • Page: Navigate to the Pages section of your menu.
   • Post: Navigate to the Posts section of your menu.
   • Template: Navigate to Appearance → Editor and select the template.
3. Click the + block inserter (plus icon) and search for “Gallery”.
   • Or, type /gallery wherever you see “Type / to choose a block” to use a shortcut.
4. Click the gallery icon to insert the Gallery block. Select one of the following options to add multiple images to your gallery:
   • Upload: Select images from your device to upload to your site. See supported file types.
   • Select Images: Select from one of the following options:
     • Media Library: Select images you’ve already uploaded to your site.
     • Your phone: Add images from your phone using the Jetpack mobile app.
     • Google Photos.
     • Pexels Free Photo Library.
     • Openverse Free Images.
   • Generate with AI: generate an image using AI by describing what you want. 
5. Click “Save“ or “Publish” to save your gallery.

If you have already created a gallery and wish to add more images to it, follow these steps:

1. Select List View in the top-left corner of the editor. It’s the icon that looks like three horizontal lines above each other.
2. Locate the Gallery block here and click on it
3. In the block toolbar, click the “Add” option and select:
   • Open Media Library: Select images you’ve already uploaded to your site.
   • Upload: Select images from your device to upload to your site.
4. Click the “Select” or “Add to Gallery” button (button name varies depending on which option you selected).
5. Click “Save“ or “Publish” to save your changes to the gallery.

To change the order your gallery images appear, follow these steps:

1. Click on an image within the Gallery block.
2. Use one of the following options to move the images:
   • Click and drag the image to another location within the gallery.
   • Use the Move icons in the Image block toolbar to move the image.
3. Click “Save“ or “Publish” to save your changes to the gallery.

You can also randomize the order in which the images appear to your site’s visitors. In the block settings sidebar, toggle the “Randomize order” to turn the feature on. Alternatively, leave this option toggled off if you want to set the order of your images.
