Starting today there is a new way for your readers to share the posts on your blog with friends. This feature allows you to add sharing functionality from a range of services to the bottom of your blog posts.

Here’s a quick video introduction:
To begin with we have the following services for you to choose from. If there is a service missing from the list, don’t worry! You can add your own custom services as well.
- Press This
- Digg
- StumbleUpon
- Email to a friend
You can control these new options in your dashboard by going to Settings > Sharing.
You can choose which of these services you want to display and in a range of different formats. If you have the custom CSS upgrade you can go even further and choose your own icons and layout. We have also added stats for all activity around this feature so you will be able to see what content people are sharing and on what services. Check out the sharing support article for more information on getting setup. Note: We will also be releasing this as a WordPress.org plugin next week.
Update: This is now available as a WordPress.org Plugin called Sharedaddy.
I think this is great. I have also added a bar on my page that shares with just about every site . . . see it listed on the right sidebar. I think that having both ways set up can only help!
Great!
Yay! Been waiting for this!
Love it! Thanks.
I never can stop saying thank you so much for WordPress for being better and better. Thank you for the hardwork.
Perfect!
Thanks to the WordPress team and all you are doing for us. You guys rock!
thank you wordpress, been waiting for this…great!!
thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BIG PLUS ! ! !
I wish this feature is also added in wordpress.org.
We’re releasing it as a plugin very soon.
This is excellent news – when you first release the Twitter share button, i was hoping for the rest to follow – and voila! thank you
Nice, I’m a wordpress.org user and was wondering about implementing the tweet button but if this is coming I guess I should just wait for this
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol
Dear WordPress, this is why I heart you.
This is wonderful! Thanks for creating this. This will be much easier than what I have been doing.
Yay! I saw the share thing this morning, but didn’t know what it was. I love you guys!
THANK YOU!
Awesomeness! I am loving this. Thanks a ton!
Nice, this is something, I was waiting for
Oh wow…finally…this will make things much much easier than what I have been doing to date…keep those updates coming… 🙂
Fantastic. Already added to my blog. Small suggestion–in my Twenty Ten theme, the text for each share option is a bit big. Would be cool if I could make this a bit smaller.
Otherwise, great addition. You guys are doing a bang-up job. Really. Great support for all us blogger out here.
Currently the text size is inherited from your post text. With the CSS Upgrade you can change the text size to what ever you want.
This is just awesome!! I’ve been waiting for something like this! WordPress is simply amazing!
I loooove WordPress!!
fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! great work devs.
Great! U guyz rock! I was really looking for this feature! It was a pain in neck copying & pasting long HTML codes at the end of my posts. I still miss a Google Buzz button though.
You can add your own custom services. Just add Google Buzz once and it will be there forever.
Sweet! Been waiting for this feature for so long. This is why I love WordPress. Great Job!
I love the idea of this, but the share icons are displaying very strangely (they either overlap or have a huge gap between) in my browser (Safari)…so I probably won’t use it.
There may be some discrepancies with certain themes – if you contact support and let them know we’ll try and get everything looking good.
Hey, you guys and gals are GREAT!
Great new feature! Thanks for adding.
Suggestion: have these buttons appear above the “possibly related posts” line. That would be a more logical flow. Act on the post, then go to other related posts.
This is a feature I have long hoped and prayed for. Now that I am blogging actively at last, I am glad it is here. Just loving it. Simply amazing! Keep ’em coming!
Thanks for doing this. I had recently started adding a sharing bar to every post and this will save me having to cut and paste the code each time. Great work on we bloggers’ behalf by WordPress.
This is fantastic!!!
COOL !! COOL !! This is amazing ! Thank you !
Wohooo, it’s about time ! 🙂
But, can you guys make the buttons placed lower or separated from the post with a line or something ?
This would need to be reviewed on a theme-by-theme basis. If you contact support they’ll be able to take this further.
One of the best news:)
Been waiting this for ages! It make my day! I will support wp.com forever!
Yea!!! I’ve been waiting for this one! So glad you’ve finally added it – I’m so excited!
This is just great! Thanks WP team.
I love you wordpress
🙂
This is EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for! Thank you very, very much! 😀
I was hoping you would do this and now you did it! Thank you soooo much!
If ever any of you find yourselves in Stratford, Ontario, drinks are on me….
I can now delete my HTML widget used just for sharing options! Thanks so much for all this 🙂
How can I add Facebook Like button?
Like the one appeared in the video .. please tell me how to add it.
Click on the dropdown arrow on the facebook service and change the button type.
YESS!!! great job!!! i’m very happy with that news!!!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!
Hugs from brazil!!
take a photo! lololol
Finally, hated always having to add the code to the post
You should add option to choose where to use shortlink and where to use permalink since now somewhere is used shortlink and somewhere permalink.
Also, why you didn’t make Facebook button (and other services too) like on Gigaom (shown below post title), it have more sense to have all button look same. There is a problem with this button now for other language -look what I see with Serbian language.
P.S. This limitation for comments is stupid, read my suggestion here.
We’ll look at adding options to change the position of the shares in the future.
I had noticed the change even when this Blog was not visible to me.. I had wanted to say something. I do that now- I love WP.. It keeps adding wonderful features. I absolutely love the grey head bar. One doesn’t have to scroll up or down anymore (depending on the theme) for the Dashboard..
Cheers..
Yahoo!!! This is exactly what I’ve been waiting for. I finally don’t have to add the html code to each and every post. THANKS!!!
Wonderful! My wish came true after all!
John, You’re a star.
Thanks a lot.
🙂
Very very good. where is the like button for Facbook?
Details of the smart buttons here: https://wordpress.com/support/sharing/
Fantastic! This is a great new feature…keep them coming. Can we have a ‘featured posts’ option where we can add graphics and enable users to scroll through features posts…pleeeasssseeeee
LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT…!!
Excellent! Only recently I was thinking how cool it would have been if I could have Facebook Like option in my posts and you have made it possible.
Thanks much!!
i wanna ask how can i make share to del.icio.us button?
thanks 🙂
this is a grea feature
The support page contains details of adding your own service: https://wordpress.com/support/sharing/#adding-your-own-service
Nice update!
Thank you. Thank you. Awesome addition.
Thanks for this. It’ll save me a job on all my future posts, and anything that saves time on administration gives me more time for pontificating about pointless things.
Perfect 😳 Thanks !!!
Thank’s, thank’s, thank’s, very super!!!
Thank you !
ah, finally!
thanks!
Thanks You!!! Long desired and now, fulfillment…
thank you very much
we was ws wait it, perfect job , i love it
Wow, I have been waiting for this for a long long time. Thank you – just made my day 🙂
This is tremendous…thank you!
WP has been on fire lately with all the enhancements. Much appreciated. This latest initiative is very welcome (even if it means that all my Get Social buttons are now duplicative!) You have also chosen wisely in terms of the default chare
Two ideas for you to consider: (1) I second those who suggest having an option to put the buttons at the top of the post. (2) I notice that on the index page, the buttons immediately follow the post, which is good. However, on the post page, they are separated from the post by “Possibly related posts”, which is less ideal. I would recommend having the buttons next to the post.
Hope these suggestions help. Thanks again.
John
Thanks John, those are good suggestions and we’ll look into them.
Thanks WordPress 🙂
yey! this is great! many thanks! =)
A dream came TRUE!!!!!!!!
This is great! Thank you
My twitter followers (the few that I have) will be inundated by my tweets about new posts. But then that is their problem. Useful. Thanks!
Oh, goody!
Maybe I’ll get brave and try it out.
Thanks!
Excellent.
Looks like I’ll be able to stop using Add-to-Any’s share button. One less thing to remember when writing a post. Well done!
For the first time in ages, I got around to adding an AddThis button to an individual post (I have one way down in my sidebar but always forget to add them to posts) and then I looked at the post today and found that it had a whole lot of other share buttons added automatically, so I needn’t have added the AddThis button. 🙂 Thanks, now I can continue to be lazy about publicising my blog.
At first I enabled all the buttons, but then, considering how small my blog is I realized it looked kind of presumptuous and slightly obnoxious having a ton of share buttons at the bottom of each post, LOL. So I decided just to go with the twitter and facebook options because I think those are the two most likely to be used by my friends and casual visitors.
Thanks guys! Keep up the great work 🙂
Remember you can also drag lots of services into the Share button. Then they will all be hidden behind one single share button.
This is the awesome thing you done, Thank you for accepting my suggestion as I suggested this in last wordpress blog post.
nice! this was a must. wondering though:
is there a way to prevent it from appearing on certain pages?
e.g: i have selected ‘posts+index pages’ so that the button
appears on the front page too but I want to leave it out the ‘about’ page.
-or maybe a custom tip for a bit later? 😉
Yes, you can disable it using the checkbox at the bottom of the post edit screen.
🙂 I was smiling when I read your words, “You can choose which of these services you want to display and in a range of different formats.”
I like it very much.
This is great!
Great !! 🙂 The next I´m waiting for is a Flattr button 😉
yes! finally! 🙂
Finally, was waiting for sharing options to happen for a long time. But… I can’t come up with editing the style & appearence of share buttons even with my CSS Editing subscription. Where I can find the class details to change? Can’t find ’em in the Coraline Theme original CSS sheet.
The styles are loaded separately but you should still be able to change your CSS to restyle the sharing buttons
I am so thrilled you added this feature! I’ve been adding sharing options manually at the end of each post and it’s a long, involved process. This does the same thing without my having to do anything special! Yay!!!!
As always, you guys give us the best options! Thank you for making our blogs look and be the best they can be.
Thanks. This is great. 🙂
Nice. Now the challenge will be to come up with something worth sharing
Ah, that’s OK !
I’ve been waiting for this !
Am I the only one who uses adblock against this sort of icons? Seriously‽ People actually want this‽ IMHO these things take up precious space (especially on netbook screens), RAM (there still ARE netbooks with 128MB of RAM) and attention. To me, this seems to make as much sense as sugar cubes in tubes…
This feature is 100% optional.
This is a great new feature :3 Thanks a lot, WordPress!
thanks, as always! 😉
This is great! thanks so much for making this 🙂
Issues with email sharing:
When you send, you get excerpts in popup where email form was
In email user get, it seems like user got email from wp.com subscription service. This is not far from truth since you go to subscribe.wordpress.com with that email, you have a pending subscription to blog for which post was shared
This is absurd since sending link to someone doesn’t mean that receiver wants to subscribe to that blog immediately.
I don’t know what you mean about excerpts appearing in the popup?
The subscription link in the email is optional. It also gives the recipient the ability to block messages if they are being sent too many.
Thank you it is a good idea
Bravo!
Thanks lot, very very usefull!
Well..was hoping for a Facebook based integration…buhh,this works too!..cheers! 🙂
