move WordPress.com site to a new host

    GoDaddy told me they cannot host my WP’.com’ site. I need to change from my current host – Sonic

    My site is stollerstudio.com, and is a WordPress.com site.

    I am told by GoDaddy that it cannot be moved from my current host, Sonic, to GoDaddy or any other host. They say it could be moved if it were a WordPress.org site. Sonic is fazing out of hosting.

    Hi there,

    If the site is hosted with Sonic, it is not a WordPress.com site. It is a self-hosted WordPress.org site.

    To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two, different entities, but the essential difference is that we don’t have access to all WordPress sites, only ones hosted on our WordPress.com servers. For more information, please see:

    Because it is a self-hosted WordPress.org site, it could move migrated to either a host like Go Daddy or to us here at WordPress.com, depending on your needs.

    I would reach out to Sonic and have them assist you with exporting your XML file. With that file, you should be able to transfer your site content to any host that hosts WordPress content. Here is a great guide on how to export the content yourself:
