KISS … Keeping it simple on the stats page
-
The old recipe for success still obtains. SImplicity and ease of use should be the primary issues in any upgrade. If the upgrade is more complex, then there should be a very good reason to support that negative element,
For the stats page we seem to now have added extra “clicking” to the way out of control “scrolling”. The new collapsable items now have to be clicked open and shut. True … the scrolling is less. But now one loses one’s place after clicking a stat open.
Please just restore the logical two page composite views. This clicking is as annoying as the scrolling. Why can no one give an answert to this most basic request. Which is …..
Why aren’t we being given the option to choose which version we prefer. If we can choose the “legacy” version of the editing program … why can’t we have a “legacy” version of the stats. ANd be able to instal the cookie which makes it permanent. I don’t want the upgrade now … nor tomorrow … nor in a month. I would like th option to permanently select the original version.
Why is this not being offered?

There may be no need to keep creating new threads on this. Provided this is new feedback please post to https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/unnecessaryfiddlingwithwhatalreadyworks?replies=17

Sorry. I felt that this new “click” feature with the individual stats under collapsible bars was worth a post. And didn’t want to add it to the suggested thread since I had already mentioned the new map color updates.

Hi there!
Feel free to add new feedback to the original thread. It’s easier to respond and keep track of when its all in one place.
In response to your feedback here, I’m not really sure I’m following the issue with collapsing the stats modules? You seem unhappy with needing to scroll. And you don’t like that the modules are collapsible. I’ve already told you in the other thread that we’re considering different designs with columns. What’s your ideal situation here?
the logical two page composite views
I’m not sure what view you mean here. The two columns? Or the model where in order to see your historical data, you move to a second page?
As for your final request for a cookie setting for the stats page, we have no plans to implement this.

Aloha Shauna … Thanks. Will shift myself back to the original. I wasn’t sure whether individual “gripes’ needed individual threads.
In the original page we could just open … see at a glance the bulk of the stats. Nice legible columns with visitor/views. Small map with countries and visitors, referrals plus of course the top posts. Everything in one glance. And of course the very popular “mouse hover” feature over the graph bars.
A small scroll down brought up the tags, comments, shares etc.
It was concise and easy to follow.
The first version of the “update” was a miserable and endless scroll. Which has now been trimmed by having the stats modules hidden behind “clickable” bars. Which means instead of just seeing those stats outright, you have to click. Fine … but once you click, your entire page is taken up by that module and you lose where you were … you have to click BACK to the stats page to click AGAIN onto the next module.
It’s now just a trade-off … the immediately scrolling isn’t visible. But in actually we now have BOTH clicking AND scrolling. Plus it’s hard to know where you are on the pagesssssssssssssss …..
This is even worse than the scrolling. It looks nice and neat until you have to actually use it. Then it’s a disaster. Click on the module …. get a big page … then click off and go back to the stats page. Locate another module and click onto it . And go through the same process.
Word Press is the best blog platform out there. Up until now it offered the best possible features. It was easy to navigate. The templates are wonderful. The stat page was perfect. And now I find it hard to believe anyone who actually uses these pages and has tested them can possibly support these amended features. It is now a maze of clicks and scrolls to find out ANYTHING. I’d say we now need a map to find ourselves on that stats page. ( But at least the map is now calibrated on a red graph line … thanks for this restore :) )
To clarify. I meant that it required only two screens ( or page scrolls) to get the composite view … in two columns with no wasted space on the left hand side. The new site menu isn’t relevant to our stats and the (smaller) map could take its place.

Thanks for the clarifications here. I’ll pass them along to our developers. :)
I’m going to close this thread, but feel free to add any further feedback to our other one.
