SpamRate — Email Deliverability Testing

Sending newsletters, WooCommerce order emails, or the everyday WordPress emails your site fires — password resets, form notifications, receipts? SpamRate tests where those emails actually land — Inbox, Promotions, or Spam — at real Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo and other mailboxes, without leaving your WordPress admin panel. Not a content score, not a simulation — real emails checked in real mailboxes.

The plugin doesn’t replace your email service. It tests what your email service delivers.

What the plugin does

  • Run deliverability tests — send a test email and see where it lands — Inbox, Promotions, or Spam — with a spam-rate score and the technical detail behind it.
  • Test your WooCommerce emails — render any store email (new order, completed order, and more) with WooCommerce’s own sample data — never a real customer’s data — and see where it lands.
  • Test your WordPress emails — check the deliverability of your site’s own outgoing mail, sent the same way WordPress sends password resets and notifications.
  • Manage deliverability monitors — set up monitors and get alerts when deliverability drops (Pro and Max).
  • Access full test history — compare results over time and track how your deliverability changes (connected account).
  • 19 free diagnostic tools — SPF, DKIM, DMARC, MX, blacklists, BIMI, MTA-STS, DANE, WHOIS, SSL, and more. No SpamRate account required.

Compatible with any WordPress email plugin or service

You send a test email through your existing service, and we check where it lands. It works the same whether you send with MailPoet, FluentCRM, The Newsletter Plugin, Mailchimp, Brevo, ConvertKit, ActiveCampaign, Mailgun, Amazon SES, WP Mail SMTP, Post SMTP — or any other SMTP plugin. And every test also analyzes the SPF, DKIM, DMARC and other technical settings behind your mail, so you see not just where it lands but exactly what to fix. SpamRate never sends your mail or reconfigures your server — it measures and diagnoses what your existing setup delivers.

Free, and account-optional

The plugin is free to install, distributed through the official WordPress.org plugin directory. You get one deliverability test a day per site, plus all 19 DNS tools, with no account at all. A free SpamRate account raises that to 3 tests a day and saves your history; Pro (50 tests a day) and Max (100 a day) add campaign monitors, more test addresses, saved and pinned results, plus PDF reports and password-protected sharing on spamrate.is. Account, upgrades and billing all happen on spamrate.is — the plugin only reads your data and links out; it never changes your account.

Read-only, and your data stays put

The plugin is read-only — it tests your existing configuration but never modifies DNS records, email, or WordPress settings. It sends only the data you provide for a test, never your subscriber lists, content, or user data — and nothing contacts spamrate.is until you explicitly agree. Every call goes through this plugin’s own server-side REST proxy, so your API token stays on the server and never reaches browser JavaScript; it’s stored in your WordPress database, the same way any plugin stores its credentials.

External services

This plugin connects your WordPress site to SpamRate (https://spamrate.is), the email deliverability testing service it is built for.

Nothing is sent anywhere until you explicitly agree. When you first open the plugin, an onboarding screen explains the setup and waits for your confirmation.

When you click “Agree & start free testing” (site setup): – Your site URL, WordPress version, plugin version, and an anonymous installation identifier are sent to spamrate.is, and a private installation token is stored locally in your WordPress database. This is required to provide the free daily test without an account. No inbound access to your site is needed or requested. – The installation identifier is a one-way hash derived from your site’s secret keys (never the keys themselves). It lets your free daily quota survive a plugin reinstall without tying it to your domain, and it is not reversible or shared with anyone.

When you connect a SpamRate account (optional): – You are redirected to spamrate.is to log in or sign up (with your password, an email code, or Google) and confirm linking this site. Authentication happens entirely on spamrate.is; the plugin never receives your credentials. On return, an account token is stored locally in your WordPress database.

When you initiate a deliverability test: – The sender address you specify and the test mailboxes you selected are sent to spamrate.is, and the system waits for an email from that sender to those mailboxes.

When you test a WooCommerce email (WooCommerce screen): – The chosen email template is rendered with built-in sample data — never a real customer’s order or personal data — and sent through your site’s own mail pipeline to SpamRate’s test mailboxes at Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo and other providers. Your store’s From address, the selected test mailboxes and a short tracking code (placed in the subject line) are sent to spamrate.is so the result can be matched to your test.

When you test a WordPress email (WordPress emails screen): – A test message is sent through your site’s mail pipeline to SpamRate’s test mailboxes. Your site’s From address, the selected test mailboxes and a short subject-line tracking code are sent to spamrate.is.

When you use a free DNS tool: – The domain, IP, or record name you query is sent to spamrate.is.

When you create a monitor (Pro or Max plan): – The sender address, the monitor name and the selected test mailboxes are sent to spamrate.is, which then continuously watches for email from that sender and automatically runs a deliverability check each time one arrives — notifying you — until you pause or delete the monitor.
