Take Home Pay Calculator
Take Home Pay Calculator lets you embed a fully working UK take-home pay calculator on any WordPress page or post using a single shortcode — no coding required.
Built for healthcare staff pages, recruitment sites, union and staff-side resources, and payroll or HR blogs, the calculator estimates take-home pay across all NHS Agenda for Change (AfC) pay bands and covers:
- All AfC pay bands (Band 2 to Band 9) with entry/mid/top pay points
- Separate pay scales for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland
- High Cost Area Supplement (HCAS) — Inner London, Outer London and Fringe weighting
- NHS Pension Scheme contribution tiers (2015 CARE, 2008 Section, 1995 Section, or opted out)
- Unsocial hours enhancements (Saturday/night and Sunday/bank holiday rates by band)
- Overtime pay (time-and-a-half and double time) for eligible bands
- UK Income Tax (including separate Scottish Income Tax bands) and National Insurance
- Student loan repayments (Plan 1, 2, 4, 5 and Postgraduate)
- Salary sacrifice adjustments
- A “Pay Rise” tab that projects the effect of a future pay award on take-home pay
The calculator runs entirely in the visitor’s browser with plain JavaScript — no external API calls, no data collection, and no server-side processing of any figures the visitor enters.
This plugin is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to NHS England, NHS Scotland, NHS Wales, the Department of Health and Social Care, or any NHS trust. Pay band references describe the publicly published Agenda for Change pay structure that the calculator is built around.
How it works
Add the shortcode [take_home_pay_calculator] to any page or post. The calculator’s stylesheet and script only load on pages where the shortcode is present, so it adds no extra weight anywhere else on your site.
Data sources
Pay scales, pension contribution tiers and unsocial hours rates are based on the published Agenda for Change pay circulars and NHS Pension Scheme member contribution tables. Figures are estimates for guidance only and should not be treated as a substitute for an official payslip.
This plugin is developed and maintained by the team behind Take Home Pay NHS: https://takehomepaynhs.co.uk/ — where you’ll find further pay guides, band-by-band breakdowns and the same calculator kept up to date online.
