External Services
This plugin optionally connects to two free external APIs to fetch live exchange rates. These connections only occur when an admin manually clicks “Fetch Live Rates” in the Exchange Rates tab. They are never triggered automatically or on the frontend.
1. Frankfurter API (api.frankfurter.app) Used for: Fetching live exchange rates for major world currencies (USD, EUR, GBP and others). Data sent: The base currency code (e.g. “USD”) and target codes (e.g. “EUR,GBP”). No personal data, no user data, no store data. When: Only on admin action (“Fetch Live Rates” button click). Provider: Frankfurter is a free, open-source exchange rate API with no user registration required. 2. ExchangeRate-API Free Tier (open.er-api.com) Used for: Fallback exchange rates for currencies not covered by Frankfurter. Data sent: The base currency code only (e.g. “USD”). No personal data, no user data, no store data. When: Only on admin action (“Fetch Live Rates” button click) and only if Frankfurter did not return a rate for a given currency. Both services are free, require no API key or account, and receive no personal data whatsoever.
