FreeArchivist
by AutomatticThe Archivist is a typewriter-inspired theme designed for meticulous storytellers and memory-keepers of all kinds. Its subtle design emphasizes structure and clarity, making it ideal for collections of letters, field notes, or essays.
Layout and structure
The homepage follows the logic of a letterpress collection, highlighting a “Letter of the Week”, thematic categories, and the latest entries in a timeline-like structure. There’s no hero image or superfluous decoration—just text, dates, and the quiet rhythm of archival navigation.
Each template maintains this typographic consistency, allowing the content to take center stage. The layout is intentionally narrow, reminiscent of old typewritten pages or index cards, guiding the reader through a measured, distraction-free reading experience.
Typography and visual styles
The Archivist employs a monospaced typeface throughout, which reinforces the typewriter manuscript’s feel. It employs restraint, with its variations relying on caps (small, all caps) and title case for hierarchy, rather than size or weight.
The theme ships with three visual styles, each inspired by vintage paper and ink tones: a soft green, evoking library catalog cards; a faded pink, referencing carbon paper copies; and a light blue, nodding to classic airmail stationery.
