Maizymas

MaízyMás is a theme inspired by the sacred origins of corn and the vibrant culture of Mexican street food. This design showcases local myths, food, and culture, utilizing native maize as a metaphor for both memory and modularity.

A theme made of stories: The site opens with a phrase drawn from the Popol Vuh, a Mesoamerican origin myth in which humans were created not from clay or wood but from corn. The concept threads through every section and design element — from geometric dividers to iconography – reflecting a folkloric spirit, through purposeful reuse across templates.

On typography and visual styles: We chose to pair bold, blocky headline typefaces with a simple geometric sans for body text. The contrast supports both folk motifs and modern editorial rhythm. The theme also includes four style variations, each named after elements of Mexican street culture and traditions around maize: MilpaAzulTierra, and Nixtamal.

The theme includes free-to-use illustrations, but we encourage you to swap them out with your own visuals. Custom assets will help make your site feel more personal, authentic, and unique to your project.
