Stranger

by Automattic

Stranger is a cinematic theme that evokes unsettling stories, glitched memories, and speculative dreams. Designed with a techno-horror aesthetic, it features custom navigation, neon-outlined buttons, and eerie typography. Step beyond, the Framebreaker awaits.

A digital anthology of techno-horror

Stranger is a highly stylized theme inspired by cyberpunk nightmares, analog glitches, and the flickering boundary between body and machine. The layout is deliberately stark and asymmetric, placing navigation elements at the bottom to mimic retro UIs or game HUDs.

The theme structure is straightforward, using full-width query loops and covers to blend feature images, titles, and excerpts into blog post templates that evoke the style of horror movie posters and memorabilia.

Typography and color

Stranger uses two distinct typefaces that reveal its unsettling but elegant character. Together, they build a visual rhythm that feels both eerie and intentional, perfect for longform storytelling.

The headings are composed in QT Bengal, a sharp, high-contrast serif with an angular, cinematic quality that evokes horror movie posters and esoteric manuscripts. To contrast such opinionated headlines, the body text uses the clean Hitch Grotesk, a modern grotesque with generous spacing and subtle warmth, balancing legibility and personality.
