Available on Substrata
by AutomatticSubstrata is a minimalist blog or portfolio designed for researchers, writers, and storytellers working with field notes and reflective essays.
Layout and structure
A theme for layered storytelling: Substrata’s homepage begins with a personal introduction section, setting the overall tone for the site. Its content layout promotes free writing and avoids strict categorization. Each template allows for immersive reading with ample spacing and a clear typographic hierarchy.
Customization options
To expand customization options and offer variety to users, I added a gradient variation that can be changed on the Homepage to update the look and feel of the hero section—from a delicate graduation to a solid color change.
Visual styles and typography
Ten style variations are included, exploring vibrant tones that change with gradients and complement the content. The Homepage and other templates feature an inverted color scheme, so whenever one variation shows light text over a dark background, the following templates will display the opposite.
Among the chosen typefaces available in various variations, Substrata utilizes serifs such as Crimson Pro, Playfair, and Faculty-glyphic, along with geometric options like Guggenheim Sans and Open Sans. There is also a condensed option, such as Open Sans Condensed, and the diverse Routed Gothic for details and meta elements.
