Caretta AI Assistant

Caretta is an AI chat assistant for WordPress and WooCommerce. It reads your site, then answers the questions your visitors ask: delivery times, returns, sizes, opening hours, whether a product is in stock, what a service includes. We are WAPI, the team that builds and runs it, and this plugin is how we connect Caretta to your WordPress site.

Most support questions on a small site are the same twenty questions. They arrive after you close, on a phone, from someone who is one answer away from ordering. A contact form asks that person to wait until tomorrow. We built Caretta because tomorrow is usually too late.

What you get

Your visitors get an answer in seconds, in the language they wrote in, drawn from your own content rather than from something generic. You get a record of what they asked, and a short list of the questions your site does not answer well yet.

Setup takes a few minutes. There is no model to train, no flowchart of replies to draw, no script to paste into your theme. You connect your account, choose where the assistant should appear, and it starts working from what you have already published.

Answers that come from your site

Caretta reads your pages, posts and, on a WooCommerce store, your products. When someone asks about shipping, the answer comes from your shipping page, not from a general idea of how shipping works. Prices and stock come from your catalogue.

When your site does not cover something, the assistant says so rather than inventing an answer. We would rather it admit a gap than send a customer away with a confident mistake.

Your unanswered questions, collected for you

Every question the assistant could not answer goes into the Gaps list in your admin, sorted by how often it was asked. Repeats raise a counter instead of adding another row, so you can see at a glance what people keep asking about.

You reply once, in your own words. Your answer is saved in WordPress as a knowledge card and sent to the assistant, which uses it from then on. Those cards stay in your site even if you stop the service.

Built for WooCommerce stores

On a store, the assistant answers with your real product names, prices and stock status, and shows the product in the chat with a link straight to it. Products you publish or edit later reach the assistant on their own, so the answers do not go stale after a price change.

It fits the site it sits on

Choose the accent colour, the title in the header, and the corner it sits in. Decide where it appears: the whole site, the front page only, certain kinds of content, or a list of pages you pick, with exceptions where you want them. Until a visitor clicks, it is a small button.

Three languages in the window, more in the answers

The chat window is available in English, Turkish and German and follows the visitor’s browser unless you choose one yourself. The assistant answers in whatever language the visitor writes in. The plugin’s own screens are in English, with a Turkish translation included.

Your key never appears in your pages

Most chat plugins print a key into the page and let the visitor’s browser talk to the vendor. We do it the other way round: messages go to your own site first, and your site passes them on. The key stays on your server, so nobody can copy it out of your page source and spend your credit somewhere else.

What it costs

The plugin is free. Caretta itself is our paid service, so you need a WAPI account with credit on it. Current pricing is on https://wapiso.com/caretta-assistant

About the name

Caretta is our own product, published here by us. The WordPress.org account behind this plugin, the plugin itself and https://wapiso.com belong to the same company. Caretta is the name of the loggerhead sea turtle, which is where the name and the logo come from. We are not connected to, endorsed by, or affiliated with any other product, service or company using a similar name.

WooCommerce is a trademark of Automattic Inc. This plugin works with WooCommerce but is not affiliated with or endorsed by Automattic.

External services

This plugin talks to two services outside your site. Here is what each one receives.

1. Caretta, our assistant service, at wapiso.com

The plugin is the WordPress half of Caretta. Without the service there is nothing to answer with.

Your site’s server, not the visitor’s browser, sends us:

  • Each time a visitor opens the chat or writes a message: the message, a random identifier the plugin creates for that visitor, the identifier of the conversation, the address of the page the chat was opened on, the language, and your key. As with any request over the internet, your server’s address reaches us, and so does the visitor’s.
  • While you use the plugin’s screens: connecting your account, testing the connection, reading your knowledge base and your unanswered questions, and sending the answers you write.
  • If WooCommerce is active: your published products, from the moment you connect your account, so the assistant can answer about what you sell. We receive the product name, price, link, stock status and image address. Products you add or change afterwards follow, and deleted ones are removed. This begins with the connection rather than a separate setting, and disconnecting ends it.

Nothing is sent before you connect an account or enter a key.

2. Cloudflare Turnstile, bot protection, currently off

Turnstile is Cloudflare’s way of telling people apart from bots. The chat can use it, so we document it here even though it does not run today.

It would only load if our service asked for it, and our service has not asked since June 2026. No request reaches Cloudflare, and nothing of Cloudflare’s is added to your pages. We keep this section because we could switch the protection back on without changing the plugin.

If it were on, the visitor’s browser would load Cloudflare’s checker, and Cloudflare would receive what it needs to score the visit: the visitor’s address, details of their browser and device, and how they behave on the page.

Source code

For developers. Nothing here is hidden or scrambled: the PHP ships as written, and the chat widget’s full source, its build script and its pinned dependencies ship in the widget-src folder inside the plugin. To rebuild the widget, run npm ci in that folder and then CARETTA_EMBED_OUT=../assets/embed npm run build; npm run check runs the tests on their own.
