   I’m using the custom feature in Regulus, but I think the changes you are making to other headers is just awesome! My husband uses the custom feature in Connections and his turned out really cool using a San Diego cityscape!

   I love the ease of use for the custom headers! I tried it out with the Connections theme, but had already done a custom header in Regulus – this was MUCH easier. 😀 But I went back to the Regulus theme because I prefer the background color options there. 😛

   I *love* the customizations you guys are making available to use! I don’t know code, so changes I’ve made on any of my blogs have been by trial and error. 😀 This just makes it SO much easier and SOOOO much faster.

    It’s based on connections, which is a great theme, however I’d be happy to change the color of the Pages-bar above my custom header image.

    I so enjoyed playing around with this new capability. Turns out, I like the wordpress type just fine, but being able to choose a photo and colors for the header was great! (You’re welcome to have a look.) Being able to remake my blog’s appearance felt a little bit like buying a whole new wardrobe after a winter of wearing the same itchy wool dress. Plus, these custom features have really reenergizing my writing. Thanks for that too! Best, BL

    Getting better all the time! I’m tickled pink with the Sweet Blossoms template, but I think the font is too small for easy readability. ?? Changed it in the code once, but that’s too much xtra work to do with the xtra problems that causes. No doubt I will try the custom header sooner or later. Thanx for all the great work WP team!:-)

I was going to hold out until Toni had the custom headers (will it?) so that I could have the purple I am so enamored of. But I couldn’t wait so I will have to change it later if Toni does get this function.     Is there any sort of timetable for when other templates will allow this type of customization? Kubrick comes to mind. I like the simplicity of it.

    K2 is still what I really want. Custom headers+K2 sounds excellent.

    @barbedwire – try using regulus.
    when you resize the header, it resaves the image, as a static gif.

    Dammit. We went for Regulus simply because we wanted that header functionality. We used paintshop pro and ftp’d it to some free webspace so we could link to it!

    Having looked around here, checked out some sites and looked at the source code, I have just uploaded my header pics to wordpress, checked the link and inserted it in the customisation page in place of the free webspace one. Jeez, you’d think the customisation page would have told us!

    Now I find we could have selected other themes! Oh well!

    It’s definitely a huge improvement, although there is room for more. Not a complaint, merely an observation. With time, wordpress.com has become my preferred free blogging service.

    Still waiting to see more themes with custom headers, especially Kubrick. I’m sure it will be soon. Thanks for all of your hard work, time spent, and effort.

    Am I right in saying that this new feature is only available for WordPress hosted blogs and NOT for people who download and install the WP software on thier own sites ?

    Seems that way because I have tried and tried and cannot see ANY button that says anything about CUSTOM HEADER IMAGE.

    This is great. Thanks. I was using one of the few with a customizable header, but didn’t like the colors of the theme or the light font, so I’ve changed now that I can customize headers elsewhere. Here’s my quick version: http://shellys.wordpress.com/. I plan to do something with graphic text, but I’m waiting for all the themes to allow this so I can pick the one that will offer me the best font options. Unless of course, changing the font to something a bit bigger and darker which would be better for my middle-aged eyes becomes an option, too. 😉

    I know people don’t like to see much change from the basic themes, but I also prefer my blogs to not look like the blogs of everyone else using the same theme. After a while, it’s hard to tell what blog I’m visiting. Being able to show off some individuality in the theme is very nice and most welcome. Thanks.

    I’ve got custom headers on three different themes:

    My fan site Reckless, Pretty & Wild http://www.recklessprettywild.wordpress.com which uses Regulus. (Band photo used with permission.)

    The log of my experimental marine aquarium, Sea Creatures & Me http://www.nanoreef.wordpress.com which uses Connections (and a photo I shot at a local aquarium)

    Finally, my new personal blog, The E-treehouse, http://www.etreehouse.wordpress.com which uses Blix (and a photo I took of a Giant Monkey Tree Frog which to my utter amazement picked up no reflections off the glass display case)

    Three vary different uses of a blog. Three very different themes. All tremendously enhanced by custom headers. 😀
